TIMELINE PERIOD: After the group acquires Gnome in the Earth Temple
BACKGROUND: When Lloyd Irving and Genis Sage first meet Presea Combatir, she is carrying a slab of sacred wood twice her size into Meltokio’s Church of Martel—one handed. The boys’ attempts to carry it themselves end in absolute, emasculating failure…and Presea continues on her way, unabated. She “helps” the group enter the castle to have an audience with the king, and travels along with them after that, as they promise to take her home, to Ozette. Along the way they encounter a prisoner named Regal, who appears to know Presea.

Presea is revealed to be a very unusual child. Not only is she augmented with strength far beyond her apparent age, she is also, for lack of a better term, a robot: completely devoid of any emotion. Her responses are short and blunt to the point of insensitivity; automatic. The group discovers from the half-elf Kate that the young girl was used in an experiment to create a Cruxis Crystal, a special Exsphere. The Exsphere embedded in her neck is equipped with a special Key Crest to make it mutate into a Cruxis Crystal, and the parasitic nature of the Sphere is what has robbed Presea of her emotions and ability to age. If the Exsphere continued to mutate unchecked, Presea would eventually die. Kate tells the group to speak to a dwarf named Altessa, another researcher responsible for Presea's condition, and ask him to fix the girl's Key Crest.

Along the way to find Altessa, the group stops in Presea's hometown of Ozette, where she is given a cold reception. The people of the town are terrified of the girl, and rightly so: she is immensely powerful for her age, has never physically matured beyond the age of twelve, and strangely enough has never buried her father, who died years before: his remains are still in her home. When Lloyd and co. meet Altessa, he refuses to make the Key Crest or even speak of Presea, as he is too filled with guild over the monstrosity of his actions. His assistant, the automated doll Tabatha helps Lloyd by telling him where to get inhibitor ore--a key ingredient in forging the Key Crest Presea needs. Lloyd eventually creates a Key Crest, but not before Presea inadvertently hands Colette over to the Desians.

Horrified by her actions, Presea swears to rescue Colette and finally lays her father down to rest. She tells the group that when her father fell ill, she met the Desian Rodyle through the black market trader Vharley, and agreed to be a test subject in the Cruxis Project, so that she would be strong enough to work as a lumberjack in her father's place.

Presea is a taciturn, solemn girl and often seems cold as a result. The truth of the matter is that she is profoundly lonely, having been robbed of her childhood, her family, and even her personality as a result of her experimentation. She is naturally distrustful of most individuals, and it takes her quite a while to warm up as a result. Fixing the Key Crest has done wonders for her personality, and on occasion she smiles and participates in the group's conversations. She is fiercely dedicated to Colette, fond of Genis in an almost sisterly way, due to her true age(and coincidentally oblivious to his enormous crush on her), and the only member of the group besides Colette who can tolerate Zelos for an extended period of time. She greatly admires Colette for her ability to "smile and forgive." She is a capable fighter, and a skilled lumberjack and whittler.
